關於歌詞裡不斷出現的 Annie，
有兩種傳言：
1.美國曾發生一位叫安妮的黑人小女孩在家被殺的血案，
為了突顯黑人地區治安問題而寫；
2.二戰時期納粹集中營的13歲猶太女孩安妮法蘭克，
原居住在德國法蘭克福，
納粹興起後隨家人避難到荷蘭的阿姆斯特丹。
1942年6月12日，
13歲的安妮收到一個日記本作為生日禮物，
從此開始寫日記。
同年7月6日，
由於迫害猶太人的風聲緊急，
納粹的勢力也深入阿姆斯特丹，
她的一家和朋友共8名猶太人藏到了她父親公司的密室，
從此開始了歷時25個月的暗無天日的生活。
安妮的日記即是紀錄一九四二到四四年間的密室生活。
在藏匿25個月之後，
安妮一家於1944年8月被檢舉出賣並送到集中營，
但她在大戰結束之前就因傷寒去世。
戰後唯一存活下來只有安妮的父親奧特倖免於難，
他整理安妮的日記，決定把它翻譯出來，
並於1947年出版。
